Today I happened to be visiting my bank's online banking site, and I noticed that a savings account I've kept open, but not touched in quite a while, is suddenly below the account's minimum balance. I found it odd that I would have been fined for anything relating to an account that has seen no activity in recent memory, so I checked into it.
As it turns out, it was the very lack of activity that they fined me for. $5.00 for putting my money in their bank and leaving it there. Isn't that what the minimum balance thing is there for? So they have enough of your money at any given time to make it worth it to handle your money?
This happened on May 27. On June 1, I was fined again for being below my minimum balance.
Grrrr.
