Everett Road Covered Bridge QTVR
The Everett Road Covered Bridge is a short distance from me in the Cuyahoga Valley. Its the last of its kind in this county, a lone reminder of what was once a common structure in these parts, and it has itself been rebuilt several times. It is no longer open to vehicular traffic, and is maintained by the National Park Service.
I had resolved to spend some time outdoors this winter, photographing when I might be otherwise inclined not to. Living is this region, winter is a big part of your life, and one I'm quite fond of. I tend to photograph in nicer weather, though, for obvious reasons, but that doesn't provide a fair representation of what this area looks like.
This pattern was necessarily reversed when I was in school. If you attend a university in this area, and build a body of work consisting mostly of landscapes, your portfolio traces a progression through three seasons, traipsing biweekly from autumn through the soggy early weeks of spring. Rarely are you blessed with full sunlight, and the light and contrast it provides, once winter sets in, but I've come to love that look. That's how it looks here for a good part of the year, all blue and gray and brown. That's what home looks like.
This winter has been somewhat different. What snow we've had hasn't had a chance to hang around long. Not that its been sunny and warm, mind you. Its been chilly and sloppy and wet. I managed to get these while there was some snow on the ground, though I had to tiptoe on the ice covering the stream as it shifted and settled underfoot.
There are two views, one from the stream level and one at the entrance of the bridge on the Everett Road side, or click on the thumbnails above to check them out.
QuickTime is required.
